2 Dec 2011 - December Newsletter

Dear Parent/Carer,

I can’t believe Christmas is almost here!  This year has flown by so quickly!  We are coming towards the end of another term and as always there are lots of things to look forward to and tell you about.

Children in Need

I would like to thank all of you who contributed to our Children in Need appeal this year.  We had a lovely day in school and there were some extremely spotty children!  I am delighted to tell you that we raised just over £247, through the contributions you made and some exceptional efforts from individual children in the school.  Many thanks to all of you.

KS1 Christmas Performance

Our reception and Key Stage One children have been working really hard to perfect their performance ready for their Christmas show on Tuesday 6th December at 1.30.  Tickets are going fast – so please see Mrs. Parker at reception if you want any.  For the bargain price of £1.50 you will receive a drink and a mince pie!

Coats

Now that the weather is finally starting to turn more wintery please could you ensure that your child comes to school every day in a warm coat.  We encourage the children to enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather (within reason!) and have noticed that some children are still coming to school without a coat.  Thank you.

Nursery Singalong

Our Nursery children will be doing their own Christmas entertainment on Thursday 8th December at 10.30 and 2.00.  If you have a child in the Nursery please come along to this lovely event.  It is always thoroughly enjoyed by children and adults alike.  It will also be a good opportunity for parent/carers to meet and get to know our new Nursery teacher, Mrs. Davis.

Christmas Parties

Our children will be celebrating Christmas and the holiday season in the last week of term.  Parties will be held in the afternoons when children will be able to play games and enjoy the food they bring in from home.  The dates for the parties are as follows:

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 – Tuesday 13th December
Year 5 and 6 – Wednesday 14th December
Year 3 and 4 – Thursday 15th December

Christmas Lunch

It will be our school Christmas Lunch on Thursday 15th December and you should have received a letter earlier in the term about this.  If your child is having a packed lunch on that day, please feel free to send them with something festive!

End of term assembly

Some parents have asked me whether we will be going to the church this year for the Carol Concert.  Unfortunately due to breaking up quite early in December and the number of events already going on in the last two weeks, we were unable to find an appropriate date for the Church Carol Concert.  We hope to continue with this tradition next year.  Because of this we have decided to combine our end of term celebration assembly with some carol singing, and would like to invite all parents and carers to this event which will be held in the school hall on the last day of term (Friday 16th December) at 1.30.  We will be celebrating the achievements of the past term and hopefully singing some carols together.  I will look forward to seeing you there.

Dogs

There have been some instances in recent weeks of parent/carers bringing dogs onto the school site.  I would like to remind everyone that the Local Authority have a strict policy of no dogs on school sites and would ask that you do not bring them with you, particularly at the end of the school day when it can be very congested at the top of the drive and there is nowhere safe for the dogs to be left.  I do appreciate this can be difficult for dog owners, however would ask that you work with us on this issue.  Many thanks.

Pantomime at the Carriageworks

If any parent/carers would like to come with us to see Cinderella at the Carriageworks in Leeds on the evening of Thursday 19th January, we still have a few tickets left at a cost of £9 each.  The coach to and from the pantomime is provided at no cost.  Please see Mrs. Parker if you are interested.

I would like to finish by thanking all of you for your continued support throughout this term.  School will close for the Christmas holiday on Friday 16th December.  I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and New Year and will look forward to seeing you all again when we return to school on Tuesday 3rd January.

Warm regards,

Elaine McLellan
